This is an early 1900's tunic from the New York State National Guard. The tunic is made of medium gray wool material, and is in extremely good condition. This particular uniform is made by Ridabock & Co. of New York. Their company is sewn in the left interior breast lining, adjacent to the pocket. Another label sewn inside the pocket also has the makers name, address of 149-151 W 36th St NEW YORK. Written in ink on that label is the owner's name, W.A. Rossbach, his unit of Co. D 107 and the date of 21 Feb 1907. The 7th New York Infantry Regiment was formed in 1806. In 1832 the unit adopted the gray color uniform in tribute to the Marquis de Lafayette. In 1847 they were redesignated as the 7th Regiment of Infantry (National Guard) New York State Militia. They would serve in the War of 1812 and the Civil War as the 7th Regiment of Infantry. In 1917 the unit was redesignated as the 107th Infantry. There are 5 EXCELSIOR National Guard buttons on the front of the single breasted tunic. An additional one was found in the inner pocket, while three are missing. The two buttons for the epaulettes are also missing. All the buttons have the back mark of RIDABOCK & CO NEW YORK. The medium gray color is still very vibrant. There is no moth damage, and all of the stitching is tight and strong. The collar, epaulettes and cuff tabs are black. The epaulettes have the letter D and the number 7 hand sewn on, to designate this soldier as being in D company, 7th regiment. The tunic is fully lined, to include the sleeves. There is very minor staining on the lining, showing this one did get worn! The stitching is also tight and very strong. There is one interior pocket. This tunic has great eye appeal and will look great in any militia/National Guard Infantry collection.
