This is a Native American spun brass trade kettle manufactured in the 1870's. it measures 7" tall, has a tapered design that is 10 1/2" in diameter at the top and 8" at the bottom. It is almost dent free, just a couple of small dings at the bottom, but shows plenty of use. Stamped on the bottom of the kettle is "THE AMERICAN BRASS KETTLE MANUFACTURERS" and the number 5. The interior of the kettle shows plenty of use, yet retains the bright brass look on the upper 1/3 section. The exterior of the kettle is still very bright. The wrought iron handle is retained by two blocks that are copper riveted to the kettle. Each block has the number 2 stamped into it. The top of the kettle has a rolled lip. These kettles were traded to the Native Americans for furs and other trade goods.
