This is a pair of Civil War bayonets found in a barn in east Tennessee. One is for the .58 caliber Springfield rifle, the primary long arm used by the Union Army. The other is for the .58 caliber Enfield rifle, used by both armies during the war, but the primary long arm of the Confederate Army. While there were no major battles fought in east Tennessee, there were numerous small scale unit actions fought here. I picked these two up at the reenactment of the Battle of Blountville last year. Being set up on sutler's row had it's benefits, as a local farmer brought these in to determine what they were and I wound up buying them! They were said to have been in the family barn ever since he could remember, which was located only a few miles from where the actual battle for Blountville took place. The bayonets themselves are in good condition, and are not excavated. The locking ring on the Springfield bayonet still rotates, but the one on the Enfield is frozen up. There are no markings on the Enfield, but the US can still be made out for the Springfield. Here are two iconic symbols of the Civil War, being offered as a pair. I thought, if they've been together this long, far be it from me to break them up! They are in very nice condition and will add to any collection!
