This is an image of Captain Isaac M. Koons of the 4th Indiana Cavalry. A check of the civil war database showed only one Koons from the Union side that was a commissioned officer. Isaac Koons originally enlisted on 9 August, 1862 as a Quarter Master Sergeant in D Company, 4th Indiana Cavalry. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 8 November, 1862. He is shown as being discharged on 20 March, 1863. This image is unlike the wartime CDV's, and I believe is a post war GAR photo of Koons. It measures 3 3/4" by 3 3/4". The image is attached to a cardboard backing, and has great clarity. It shows Koons in what appear to be a nine button frock coat with Eagle buttons. There are captain's shoulder boards, but I cannot determine which branch they represent. He wear s a French style Chasseur's hat with gold braid and badge. On the left breast of the frock coat are two medallions. One looks to be a Corps badge, the other looks to be a GAR reunion badge. The bottom of the image is ink stamped NEW YORK GALLERY, and the lower right corner is ink stamped WILLIAMSPORT PA. The back of the image has no back mark, but in pencil is written "Capt I. Koons/Williamsport/Pa.
