This is a private purchase brass spur from the Civil War era. The brass has turned a deep chocolate brown color. The spur is free of bends, twists or any other damage. The leather strap that came with it looks to have been on there forever. The leather is dry, but still pliable and still retains most of the black color. The eight point rowel rotates freely. It is of western origin, quite possibly out of Texas. The construction of the spur is very similar to that of the Model 1859 Federal spur, but there are no size stamps or any other markings to be found. There are no casting flaws, a common trait of Confederate made brass items. The spur is 4 3/4" in length and 3" wide. While it doesn't have the traits associated with Confederate made items, this one just says Texas Cavalryman. This one would look great in your Cavalry collection!
