This is a 1/6 plate ambrotype of a young Confederate soldier. This is an early war image, as this young man is dressed in civilian attire. Perhaps it was taken when he was still in an unequipped militia unit when the war was in it's early stages. Regardless of the lack of uniform, there's no doubt he's a Confederate soldier. Clearly depicted in the image is the leather waist belt with the roller buckle seen in so many Confederate images. He's holding a good sized fighting knife that looks to be a clip point with brass cross guard. The brass on the knife has been colorized in the image. You can also make out the scabbard on his belt. The image itself is very clear with just a small area on the right edge having any blemishes. The image is framed in a glited frame with gold mating and housed in a thermoplastic case. The case itself is in beautiful condition with only slight traces of wear along the edges. The binding is in perfect condition, no rips or tears on this one! The clasp and hook are still present and hold the case closed perfectly. Opposite the image is a red velvet pad to protect the image when the case is closed. It has a floral design that is absolutely fantastic. The floral design carries over onto the outside of the case. This thing displays just great and will complement any collection. If you are a collector of Civil War images here's your chance to own an early war Confederate preparing to head off and defend his home against the War of Northern Aggression!
