Model 1851 Sword Belt Rig
Item #: AA950
This is a Model 1851 sword belt rig from the American Civil War period. The black tooled leather belt measures 36 1/2" long and 1 5/8" wide. The short sword drop measures 7 3/4" long including the snap swivel, while the long drop is 23" long including the swivel. The leather is in fair condition, but does have a couple of issues. The left side of the belt where the long drop has been riding for all these years has caused the leather to crack and tear. it is still complete but has some modern black thread wound around it to prevent any further damage. The small drop also has a tear in the leather about one inch below the attachment point on the belt. Despite this, the belt still displays well. The 1851 Sword belt plate is the plain enlisted type with the wreath cast into the plate. The plate and keeper are unmarked and show traces of verdigris, along with the other brass components of the rig. This old Model 51 sword belt rig would go well with any Civil War or Indian War display
