Theater Altered Collins Machette
Item #: AA944
This is a theater altered Legitimus Collins Model 1942 machete from World War II. It came into the shop with a few other items from a WWII Marine that had served in the Pacific theater. Originally the machete had a 21 1/2" blade. The former owner turned it into a 15 1/4" clip point side knife! The blade measures 10" in length, 1 15/16" wide and has a 1/8" spine. The blade displays a dull gray patina with some freckling scattered over the entire length. The obverse side of the blade is stamped with the Legitimus Collins trade mark of US/Arm&Hammer/LEGITIMUS/COLLINS/1942. The blade still carries a razor sharp edge. A brass cross guard has been added to the knife, giving it the appearance of a bowie. The hard plastic handles are attached to the tang by five steel pins. There is a period repair to the handle on the bottom left corner. The repair doesn't detract from this fighting knife's display power, just mentioned for accuracy. The custom made leather sheath is in perfect condition. The two piece construction has been hand stitched together, with the addition of brass screws and nuts for support. This is one cool looking combat knife fashioned from a machete. If you collect World War II Pacific Theater items this one is a must!
