This is an 1800's cap and ball boot pistol in .44 caliber. The overall length of this compact bruiser is 8". The 3" octagonal smooth bore barrel is dark but not pitted. There are no makers marks or stamps to identify the maker, but it is most likely European made. The only stamp showing is the number 11, stamped into the bottom of the main frame. The metal has a bright gun metal gray patina. The walnut grips show normal wear from handling, but have no damage. Overall, this one has great eye appeal. The action is strong, with the hammer holding at half cock and full cock. When the trigger is depressed the action is crisp, striking the original nipple with a snap. There are plenty of pictures out there showing both Union and Confederate soldiers armed with these type boot pistols. It will go with your Civil War collection or Mississippi Delta gambler collection!
