Regulation US Belt Plate

This is a regulation pattern 1839 US waist belt plate on the original belt. The belt length is 31 1/4" and is 1 3/4" wide. The leather shows honest wear but is still very supple. There is very little loss of the dyed black, just a couple spots on the upper back side. There is also a very small crack on the top edge above the adjustment holes. The brass keeper is missing from this belt. The belt plate has been on this piece of leather for a long time. The front side has the easily recognizable US letters. There are just a couple of small dimples and scratches, mostly on the high points of the lettering. All three hooks are present, with the two attachment hooks being of the arrow type. The back side is fully leaded, but does not have a maker mark visible. Every Union soldier wore one of these rigs, usually supporting a cap box and bayonet scabbard. I have no doubt that this one was worn by some Northern boy who faced the elephant! It would go perfect with your Yankee Infantry collection.
