This is a 10 gauge double barrel shotgun from the mid to late 1800's with no makers marks. The shotgun has an overall length of 50", with a barrel length of 34". The exterior of the barrels have a smooth, black/brown finish. There is moderate pitting around the nipples, with the right nipple being nearly flattened. The bores are dark and rusty, with moderate pitting throughout. There are multiple stamps on the bottom of the barrels on the breech end. The Liege mark of E over LG over a star in an oval and a scepter type mark from Leige are among a couple visible. The ELG over the star was used from 1811 - 1892, the scepter type mark began being used in 1853 as a view stamp and inspectors mark for Perron firearms. There is also a G with a crown over it on each barrel. The numbers 9928 are also stamped, not sure if that's a serial number or not. The stock has the same number written in pencil in the barrel channel. I believe this is a Belgian made shotgun manufacture for sale in England. The lockplate have no stamps, adding to the mystery of this old gun. The actions work perfectly, holding half and full cock. The ramrod thimbles, nose cap, trigger guard and butt plate are all iron. The escutcheon plates are are German silver. Simple decorative engraving can be found on the barrel tang, butt plate and trigger guard. The walnut stock is in very good condition, with no cracks or wood loss anywhere. There is just a bump or two from handling. On the right stock comb near the butt plate are two star shaped stamps in the wood. Not sure what they signify. The wooden ramrod that came with the gun appears to be original. The overall condition of the gun is very good. If you have a black powder shotgun collection this would make a fine addition without breaking the bank!
