This is an Aladdin Industries Inc. Gunsmoke lunch box from 1959. The lunch box depicts scenes from the tv series Gunsmoke, one of the longest running series on television. The series ran from 1955 through 1975 and starred James Arness as U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon. Marshal Dillon kept the peace in Dodge City, Kansas during the lawless cow town days of Kansas. Depicted on the lid of the lunch box with the marshal is deputy Chester Goode played by Dennis Weaver. Marshal Dillon went through his fair share of deputies, including Burt Reynolds, Buck Taylor and the most recognizable Ken Curtis as Festus. This 57 year old lunch box is in very good condition. There is the normal paint loss along the edges and light scratching. The colors are still bright on the box and thermos as well. The lid depicts Marshal Dillon and Deputy Chester foiling a bank robbery. The bottom of the box has the marshal and deputy mounted and giving chase to two outlaws. Giving them directions as to the route of the outlaws is Doc as he stands by a disabled wagon. The sides of the box show different areas of Dodge City. The front shows a peaceful street scene with a wagon and pedestrians walking. The left side shows the stage coming into town. The back has another street scene with a rider on horse and another wagon. The Long branch Saloon is shown here. On the right are some rowdy cowboys shooting up main street Dodge City. But they're just good ol' cow hands, don't mean no harm! The Dodge house can be seen here. The thermos is in good condition, with no dents or paint loss. The only flaw with the whole thing is the missing cap for the thermos. The cup is still present though. This is a rare and very collectible lunch box. You won't find another like this one any time soon!
