This is a matched set of steel spurs from the late 1800's. They bear a strong resemblance to the Model 1841 Dragoon Pattern military spur. This type of spur used a screw and spike method of attachment instead of the conventional leather straps. This type of spur was short lived in the military. The spike limited the movement of the spur and caused early failure of boot heels. This short coming was well documented in period military documents. Many troopers resolved the boot heel problem by simply breaking the spike off flush with the heel plate. This set of spurs are in very good condition. Both retain their original shape. The silver plating is intact with just a small amount of rust near the spike attachments. The attaching spikes are both present and straight. The screws are not with the spurs. The rowels are both present and rotate freely. These are a nice set of spurs, priced to move!
