This is a tin map, orders, document tube from the Civil War era. It is made of medium gauge tin that has been jappened black. The tin has been rolled to form the tube and then soldered to retain the shape. Each of the ends are flat to allow the tube to remain upright when placed on a flat surface. The entire outer surface was jappaned black and the majority of the tube still retains the finish. The tube measures 21" long and the flat ends are 2" across. These were used by both the North and South. Engineer officers and Cavalry officers could always be found with them. This would make a great addition to a camp scene or to your document collection.
