This is a United Confederate Veterans reunion badge from Chattanooga, Tennessee. The reunion was held from October 25 - 27, 1921. The hanger measures 2" across. Inside the hanger is a small paper backing with the name D.H. Yancey written in pencil. The ribbon is red and white with the word VETERAN written in gold letters. The medal is 1 1/2" with gold gilt. On the perimeter in a border is written U.C.V. REUNION CHATTANOOGA TENN. Under the border is a scene of Lookout Mountain showing trees, cannon and a wagon on the mountainside. The valley is shown on the right side with the Tennessee river flowing towards the setting sun. The words LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN are below the scene. In two small borders below the mountain scene are OCT. and 25 - 27, the dates of the reunion. The year 1921 is in a small circle in the midst of the wreath that flows up both sides of the medal. The pin back is still present and securely attached to the hanger. The hanger has a darker patina than the medal, but still shows the gilt well. The ribbon still has very vibrant colors, but the ribbon has separated through the middle of the word VETERAN. The medal itself displays wonderful, showing only a small amount of wear on the letters ATTAN of Chattanooga. Searching the Civil War database revealed two results for the name D.H. Yancey. Both results came back associated with Confederate Cavalry units from Alabama, the 1st and 7th Alabama Cavalry regiments. According to the database it states that the 1st Alabama Cavalry fought in more engagements than any other unit, North or South. If you collect UCV artifacts this is one you shouldn't pass up!
