This is an antique "Gentleman's" hip flask from the late 1800's. It is 6" tall, 3" wide and 1" deep. The flask is made of glass and is in the shape of the traditional pint bottle. There are no cracks or chips in the glass, and it will hold liquid. The top half of the glass is covered in soft, dimpled black leather. The leather is in good overall condition, showing just a light discoloration at the top from normal use. All stitching is solid and the leather remains well adhered to the glass. Both sides of of the leather have vertical sight glasses to enable the owner to see the level of liquid inside. The base has a surround made of silver and has turned a dark gray patina. The inside is still a bright finish. The surround was intended to protest the glass flask as well as serve as a drinking cup. It has a maker mark of Richardson & Co. Liverpool. The cap is made of silver and has a screw on cap. The original cork material is complete inside the cap. This is something that would fit into almost any collection from the Spanish American War period forward.
