Mother of Pearl Set
Item #: AA803
This is a Mother of Pearl pistol and knife set from the 1870's. The set includes a 22 rimfire pistol made by Hopkins & Allen, an empty ammunition box from Winchester, and a cleaning rod in a wooden presentation box. Also included is an ornate knife made by the J.E. Caldwell company that has mother of pearl handles. The nickel plated Hopkins & Allen pistol is single action seven shot revolver in 22 caliber. It measures 5 1/4" overall, with a 2" barrel. The octagonal barrel has a two line address, Hopkins & Allen Mfg Co./PAT MAR. 28 1871. The flat on the frame is stamped XL. No 1. The barrel, cylinder and cylinder retaining pin are stamped with the serial number M2144. The nickel plating is in good condition, only the front part of the fluted cylinder showing any loss of plating. The action on this little pistol is as strong and crisp as the day it was made. The hammer locks in both half and full cock, and the cylinder indexes perfectly. When the spur trigger is depressed the hammer snaps forward. A box of 22 shorts is all you need and this one will fire again. The mother of pearl grips are flawless. A beautiful little pistol to say the least. The cardboard Winchester box is in near mint condition. The green advertising labels are still very vibrant, the black writing very clear. The knife is made by the J.E.Caldwell company and measures 8 3/4" overall. The sterling silver blade is 5" in length. Caldwell's maker mark is stamped into the blade. The blade itself is beginning to tarnish and could use a good polishing. The cross guard is a little loose on the blade tang. The mother of pearl handle is brilliant in the light. If you have an old west or gamblers collection this would fit in nicely.
