Model 1840 Musicians Sword

This is a Model 1840 Musicians Sword manufactured by Emerson & Silver of Trenton, New Jersey.The sword measures 34" overall, with a blade measuring 28". The blade is of a plain, straight, single edge design. The once bright blade has now turned a dull gray. On one side of the ricasso is stamped US/DFM/1863. The other side is stamped Emerson & Silver/Trenton/N.J. The hilt is of cast brass and has turned a mustard yellow patina. The inspectors initials of DFM are also found on the right side of the knuckle bow. The blade remains as tight to the hilt as the day it was made. The iron scabbard is has a brass throat and drag, both having the same patina as the hilt. On the drag once again are the inspectors initials of DFM. The throat has a long frog stud. For a sword that's 153 years old it is in amazingly good condition.
