This is a percussion combination shotgun and rifle from the mid 1800's. The overall length of the weapon is 55", with the barrels measuring 38". The shotgun barrel is a 20 guage, while the rifle bores out at 24 caliber. Quite an unusual combination, to say the least. Could be this one really was intended for shooting squirrels and such! I have not disassembled this one, so I don't know if there are any maker marks on the bottom of the barrels or not. The shotgun gore is dark, rusty and pitted. The octagon rifle barrel bore is rusty as far down as I can see, my bore light won't fit the small barrel. The rifle barrel is outfitted with a rear buck horn style sight with a blade front sight. The shotgun uses the conventional bead front sight. A small wooden ramrod came with with this one that just fits the samll caliber rifle barrel. All the hardware on this one is iron and matches the patina of the barrels, having a dark chocolate appearance. The lock plates are stamped SCOTT & Co LONDON. The shotgun action works, but the rifle hammer is stuck in the cocked position. The walnut half stock has a dark appearance except for the wrist area. There is a small 1/4" crack on the left side by the rifle lock plate. This one was obviously intended to be used for hunting small game.
