This is a pair of Civil War era drummer boy's boots. The boots are 8 1/4" tall and measure 6 3/4" from the tip of the sole to the end of the heel. They are constructed in the style of the 1851 Artillery drivers boot with the exception of the toe. These little boots have an additional cap sewn onto the toe. They actually look very similar to the old Corcoran jump boot made famous by the Airborne units of WWII! The leather is quality boot grade and the stitching remains tight and strong. There is a seam near the ankle where the front and rear halves of the boot were stitched together. There is also a row of stitching near the ankle that goes all the way around the back half to give give additional support. The boots have pull straps sewn on to assist in getting these things on. Unfortunately these appear to have been stored where rodents or some other type varmit got to them. The flap added to the front of the boots has been eaten or rotted away from both boots. Other than that they are in near mint condition. The leather soles are pegged and the heels are attached by square nails, just like the regulations stated. I believe that these could be repaired by a competent sutler. If you happen to have a drummer boy collection these may be just what you need to round it out!
