Late 1800's United Confederate Veterans Kepi. This one is made similar in style to the Federal model 1872 kepi. The gray jean wool material still retains a bright color. Best of all there is no moth damage to this one. The only flaws this one has are two holes in the black band sewn around the bottom. The black tarred visor is firmly attached to the body of the kepi with hand stitches. There is no sweat band on it and does not appear to have ever had one. The stitching for the lining is missing from the the center of the visor to the right button. There is a faint shadow of a makers label, but it's not legible. The chin strap is in perfect condition, including the brass adjustment buckle. The two buttons are South Carolina State Seal buttons. I can't tell if they are back marked or not. This kepi displays so well it's hard to believe it's over 130 years old! You South Carolina collectors should look hard at this one.
