This is a World World II Army Air Corps Officer's tunic that would have been part of the famous "pinks and greens" uniform of that era. The OU52 tunic is constructed of officer's quality OD green material and is has all the pin on insignia authorized for wear. Both of the epaulets have a gold Major's oak leaf pinned on it. Each lapel has the wing and propeller insignia of the Army Air Corps below the U.S. brass insignia. The tunic has 3 two piece brass buttons back marked J.R. Gaunt & Son INC. NEW YORK. On the inside by the shank is stamped MADE IN ENGLAND. The fourth button is made of plastic. This tunic was intended to be worn with a cloth belt without the use of belt loops. The belt is no longer with the tunic. A set of Sterling Pilot's wings are pinned above the left breast pocket. There are no ribbons or unit patches with the tunic. It does not appear that the unit patch or overseas stripes were ever sewn on this uniform. The only thing sewn on either sleeve is the officers braid. The manufacturer's label is sewn on the interior right breast pocket and is by the Associated Military Stores Chicago FT. Benning, Ga. Inside the pocket a label shows that this tunic originally belonged to LT S. Greaves, dated 9/25/45 and number 8390. This same information is hand written in ink on the inside of the collar lining. The date of September 25, 1945 would explain why there were no overseas stripes sewn on the left sleeve, as the war ended on August 14, 1945. The absence of a unit patch is a little curious. The Major's oak leaves is anybody's guess. The uniform has very little moth damage, one or two spots. It remains in great display condition. It doesn't have a size tag, but my guess is a 36 -38.
