Robert E Lee Chair Fabric

A piece of fabric from a chair that belonged to Confederate General Robert E. Lee. It was found in an old envelope inscribed "General Robert E. Lee, button and material from his rocking chair which he presented to his friend Stanton...Grosse Ile". Robert Lee Stanton was the fifth son of General Henry Stanton. General Stanton served with Robert E. Lee during the Mexican war, and named his fifth son after General Lee. The young man was also Lee's Godchild. Stanton eventually moved to Grosse Isle, Michigan in 1880 and becam a farmer. The imprint of the envelope the fabric was found in is back marked "The Hotel Book-Cadillac, Detroit, Michigan. This artifact was originally sold by The Historical Shop and is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity by them. The fabric is not from the chair shown in the photo of General Lee. Another rare and authentic piece of history associated with one of America's most beloved military leaders!
