Southern Cross of Honor identified to Pvt B.M McGee. Pvt McGee enlisted in the 12th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment in February 1863. The 12th Tennessee, also known as the 1st Partisan Rangers, or Green's Cavalry, was organized behind Federal lines. It served under Richardson's and Rucker's brigades and fought in Tennessee and Mississippi. The unit went on to fight in Georgia, Memphis and was part of General Hood's operations in Tennessee. In February 1865 the 12th Regiment was broken up with some men going to the 3rd Tennessee. Pvt McGee was captured July 29 1863 at LaGrange, Tennessee. He was sent to Camp Morton, Indiana on August 11 1863. On August 21 he was exchanged and shown to belong to A Co, Maxey's Regiment. This Southern Cross of Honor comes with copies of muster rolls and a brief summary of the 12th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment.
