Oil Cloth Rain Cover

This one came into the shop as a rain cover for a Civil War kepi. After a little research I have come to the conclusion that this is post war, probably for a GAR kepi or possibly a slouch hat. The silk material has been glazed to make it light weight and water proof. Written in pencil is the size 7 5/8" in two different places. The stitching is very strong throughout. There is some flaking over the entire surface of the cover. The pictures show the cover over a civil war era kepi, and the thing swallows it. But at least you get the idea of how it was worn.
