Military style kepi from the early 1900's with Boys Brigade buttons. The Boys brigade is an interdenominational christian youth organization. It was founded by Sir William Alexander Smith on the 4th of October, 1883 in Glasgow Scotland. Smith utilized his military background to combine drill and fun activities with Christian values. The organization can be found worldwide, being established in the US during the early 20th century. The organization's military association is seen in this kepi resembling the model 1872. The dark blue wool material is still bright, but has some mothing issues shown in the photos. The tarred black brim is firmly attached and the chin strap is in good condition. There are two boys brigade buttons on the hat. They are both back marked Oak Hill Clothing Co Boston. This one comes with a white cover that is held in place by the buttons. The stitching has come loose on the rear seam of the cover. The cover is also stained all the way around. The leather sweatband is still attached, but has some deterioration along the seam. At some point this one was stored in old newspaper, and some is stuck to the brim. An interesting piece of an early American christian youth organization.
