Removable cape for the Model 1885 Great Coat. The Army went away from the Sky Blue uniform in 1885 and moved to a more consistent color of medium blue. This outer color of the cape is that shade of blue, with the lining being an orange yellow color for Cavalry. 1885 is the year that the orange yellow color was implemented for the Cavalry branch. There are 7 general service buttons on the cape, for with back marks of Horstmann Philladelphia, two with Horstmann * Phila * and one with a blank backmark. There is a period repair at the upper button hole. A small amount of mothing is on the outside of the cape, mostly along the hem at the bottom. The lining has much more moth damage, as shown by the pictures. The lining has become detached from the back part of the collar area. All the hooks to attach the cape to the coat are still present. For a garment that's almost 131 years old it's still in great condition.
