Blacksmith crafted side knife with oral history of being found in Missouri. This one remains in as found condition. The overall length of the knife is 12 1/4", with a blade of 8 1/4" long. the The double edged spearpoint blade is unmarked and appears to be hand forged. The steel cross guard is S shaped and tapers at both ends. The oak handle has been hand carved and originally had two ferrules. The rearward ferrule or pommel cap if you will, is missing. What appears to be Roman numerals VI are carved in to the handle. This is a definite Confederate trait. The handle has cracked over time, but has not cracked all the way through. It is still tight to the tang, no movement at all. The blade has achieved an overall dark blackish patina and does not appear to have ever been sharpened. The edges have a couple of tiny little nicks, mentioned for accuracy. The tip of the blade is intact, but has a slight bend to it. While there is no documentation that this is a Confederate made and used side knife, it looks, feels, smells and talks Rebel! Here's your chance to own a Southern made and used edged weapon without breaking the bank.
