A Civil War era rosewood flute. This little musical dandy measures 11 1/2" long. It has been well played, shows some wear to the body and the five sterling silver cup keys. A small section of the rosewood body is cracked. Unfortunately I am not well versed on flute construction, so i can't tell you which piece it is. As I figure it out I will update you on what piece it is. I do not believe it would interfere with the playing of this instrument. While drums are more commonly associated with marching armies, flutes have their place. While at route step columns would hear these played to distract them from the Agony of long forced marches. They were also part of the regimental bands that played for the soldiers while in camp.
