Civil war era matched mess set from John Askham. This is a really nice matched knife and fork set from the 1860's. The knife is 10" long and the blade is marked in three lines, VR/ JOHN ASKHAM/ SHEFFIELD. The tip of the blade has a small amount of pitting and discoloration on the very end on both sides. The bone handles are still tight to the blade tang and are retained by three brass pins. The fork is 7 1/2" long, has three tines and has no markings. It is obvious these two have been together forever. The bone handles are tight and also retained by three brass pins. These will make a nice addition to your camp display.
