Click on an image to enlarge
Civil War era kepi of a soldier from Georgia. This one is in relic condition as the photos show. There is quite a bit of moth damage all around the material. The sweat band, buttons and chin strap are missing. The visor became detached and has been hand stitched back on, but is not a period repair. Most of the original liner is present. So what makes this one even worth mentioning you ask? Well, it's identified! On the underside of the tared brim is the soldiers initials, company and unit he belonged to. The kepi was purchased directly from the soldiers family on top of that! During the late War of Northern Aggression this kepi was worn by Corporal John K Edwards of Company A, 5th Regiment Georgia Infantry (State Guards). This unit was organized November 1863 and was active in the Military district of Georgia from December 1863 through February 1864. The kepi will ship with a letter showing the kepi was purchased from family and the research of the soldier and unit. The documents are included in the photos with the names blocked out. While it is a bit on the rough side, it's still a great piece of Confederate history.
