Model 1905 US Navy belt plate on the original belt. The belt measures 36" in length and 1 1/2" wide. The false two piece buckle measures 2" across and has lost the gilt finish on the high points of the eagle as well as most of the left side of the wreath. On the back side of the plate at the top a stamp reads "Made Expressly for Jacob Reed's Sons. Phila". Jacob Reed was a military retailer from 1843 through 1877, at which time his sons took over the business and the name changed to Jacob Reed's Sons. The company continued to provide uniforms and accessories to the US Army and Navy until 1980. A dark blue or black cloth sash with 5 gold lines was sewn onto the leather belt. There is fraying in several places along the top edge of the cloth. The leather belt has seen better days. There are two cloth belt drops with hangers sewn on to the belt. One is 16" long, the other 15" long. There is also a brass hanger on the belt. This model belt plate was utilized by Naval officers from 1905 until 1940. This one could possibly have seen service during World War I.
