A glass syringe from a Union Regimental Surgeon's kit. Quite an interesting little piece of equipment, as these were used in the treatment of venereal diseases. There were 8 of these authorized in the surgeon's kit to provide three months of treatment in the field. Thousands of soldiers contracted some form of venereal disease through the war. A seldom thought of but apparently very important piece of life saving equipment available to doctors in the field. If you collect Civil War medical instruments your Regimental Surgeon's kit is incomplete without this!
