Post Civil War Militia Belt Plate
Item #: AA476
Model 1851 militia belt plate on the original embroidered cloth belt. The plate appears to be a post civil war solid brass casting measuring 3" by 2". The embroidered cloth has separated from the leather, as is common with these old belts. There is a visible oval shaped maker stamp on the leather. Columbus, Ohio is legible on the bottom line, but I can't make out the remainder of the stamp as it has been worn by the belt plate. A similar example is listed in Sydney Kerkis' book "Plates and Buckles of the American Military 1795-1874" plate 224.
