Henderson - Ames Templar Sword

A Templar sword and scabbard produced by the Henderson and Ames company of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The sword measures 35 1/2" overall, with a blade measuring 29 1/4" long and 5/8" wide. The blade is ornately etched with an eagle, scroll bearing E Pluribus Unum and The Henderson Ames Co Kalamazoo Mich on one side. The other side has U S, shields, drums and the owners name, Toba O Clark, etched on it. The fixed guard on the hilt has an eagle with shield clutching laurel branches in one talon and arrows in the other. the folding half of the guard has a shield with cannon, sabers muskets and guidons enclosed by laurel branches. The original wrap and wire are in excellent condition. The scabbard is in good condition with leather hangers present. The mason this sword was presented to must have had a military background or have been a veteran of the Civil War, Spanish American War or possibly World war I. Some research on the name etched on the blade will reveal that answer!
