This is a World War II German Afrika Korps (DAK) enlisted man/NCO buckle on a web belt in used condition. The buckle is die stamped steel and painted in an olive drab color. The front of the buckle has the GOTT MIT UNS raised lettering over the German eagle and swastika. The buckle retains the majority of the paint. The inside of the buckle is stamped R.S. & S., for Richard Sieper & Sohne. The tropical web belt is in well used, but good condition. It has a brown leather tab that has been punched with seven double vertical rows to allow for adjustment of the length of the belt. There is a small stamp on the leather between the stitching that reads GC, most likely an inspector stamp. Both ends of the belt has reinforced stitching along the edge to prevent fraying, the stitching is still present but some fraying has still occurred. One end of the belt is ink stamped 90, to indicate the length, that comes out 35". The condition of this one shows that it was definitely used. The dry climate of the deserts the Afrika Korps fought in were brutal on leather equipment, thus the use of the webbed gear. This is a fantastic example of a piece of equipment used by the hard fighting Afrika Korps commanded by the famous Desert Fox, Field Marshal Irwin Rommel. If you have a DAK collection this is a must have item.
