This is an excavated powder flask spout from the Civil War. It measures 1 1/2" in length and 1 1/4" across the base. The brass spout has a dark chocolate patina, and is mostly covered in verdigris. The spout has three different charge settings. The cutoff spring is still intact, but it is frozen in position. This powder flask spout was excavated on private property in Williamson County, Tennessee. The Battle of Thompson's Station took place on 5 March, 1863. Union forces, under the overall command of Colonel John Coburn, were defeated by Confederate forces under the command of Major General Earl Van Dorn. The battle had relatively few casualties compared to other battles, with the Confederates suffering 300 casualties. The Union forces suffered 33 killed in action, 177 wounded and the entire command of the 19th Michigan Infantry and 33rd Indiana Infantry Regiments captured. This is a cool little artifact from the Civil War era that won't break the bank.
