This is a percussion 16 gauge double barrel shotgun from the mid 1800's. The shotgun measures 46" overall, with 30" barrels. The bores are dark show rust and pitting throughout the length of the barrels. LONDON FINE TWIST is stamped on the rib between the barrels. The underside of the barrels show plenty of British proof marks, from the Birmingham proofs to the number 19 stamped into each barrel to the BH and WH stamps. The lock plates are maker marked with the name MANTON. The hammers are lightly engraved with simple floral patterns. The actions on this piece do not operate, both hammers fail to lock in half and full cock positions. All the iron has a very even eye pleasing dark plum patina. The butt plate, nose cap, escutcheon plates and ramrod thimbles are iron. The trigger guard is made of brass and has a deep undisturbed patina. They all have the same ornate floral etched designs. The walnut half stock is in good condition. There is no major wood loss anywhere on the stock. There is a shallow stress crack that runs from one lock to the other on the bottom of the gun. The stock has finely detailed checkering in the wrist area. There is a small ornamental brass disc on the bottom of the stock. The original ramrod is still with this beautiful weapon. Here is an opportunity to add to your black powder shotgun collection at a very affordable price!
