This is a reproduction Confederate States Naval cutlass like the ones used by the Confederate Navy during the Civil War. The cutlass has an overall length of 25", with a blade length of 19 3/4". The original CSN cutlass of this style was manufactured at Catherine's Furnace in Fredericksburg, Virginia by Charles Wellford. It was based off the US Navy Model 1841 cutlass. I believe this reproduction cutlass was made by Legendary Arms. It has an unfullered, carbon steel blade with a brass hilt. Both the blade and the brass have been artificially aged, to give the look of being over 150 years old. The obverse side of the pommel has the letters CSN cast into it. The reverse side has a a fouled ships anchor on a cant cast into it. I suspect that this reproduction cutlass was aged in an attempt to sell it as an authentic Civil War piece. It still makes a decent representation of what the Confederate Navy was armed with, and it sure won't break your bank account like a real one will!
