Women's Relief Corps 11th National Convention Medal

The Womans Relief Corps was adopted as an auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic in 1883. This medal was presented to delegates attending the 11th National WRC Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1893. The medal is 3 1/2" tall, with the hanger being 1 1/2" wide. The hanger has the likeness of a firefly on it, the state insect for Indiana. The yellow ribbon is in very good condition, showing no picks or frays. The round medallion hanging from the ribbon has the likeness of the National President of the WRC on the front, Sarah C. Mink. Around the perimeter of the medal in raised letters it reads "NATIONAL PRESIDENT W.R.C. at the top and 1893 at the bottom. The back of the medallion is marked WOMEN'S/RELIEF/CORPS in raised letters in the center, with INDIANAPOLIS underneath. In an arc around the perimeter of the medallion in raised letters is "DELEGATE TO 11th NATIONAL CONVENTION' with the date 1893 at the bottom. The overall condition of this WRC delegates medal is very good, and will compliment any Women's Relief Corps collection.
