This fine example cap and ball revolver is a REPLICA Civil War era Model 1851 Colt Navy in .44 caliber. The serial number of 400119 places this revolver's production date in 1997. Unlike the original Colt Navy revolvers, the serial number of this pistol is found on the frame. This particular Model 1851 has a brass frame and is meant to duplicate the Confederate made revolvers of Griswold & Gunnison. The barrel is stamped on both sides, the right side showing a diamond with FAP inside and F.LLI PIETTA MADE IN ITALY, the left side shows BLACK POWDER ONLY 44 CAL. The bore rifling is crisp and has no pitting in the lands. The cylinder is rebated and looks more like an 1860 Army. The barrel and cylinder are blued and it looks a mile deep! The frame, backstrap and trigger guard are brass, while the hammer and loading lever have a case hardened appearance. The brass has an eye pleasing bright gold patina. The one piece walnut grips are in very good condition, no mars, dings or chips. The nipples on the cylinder are all intact as well as the safety pins. The action is crisp and locks up up perfectly in the half cock and full cock positions. This 7 3/8" octagon barreled revolver is a very nice example of a Confederate made side arm issued during the Civil War. It will fill the bill for any Civil War reenactor or display nicely as a beginning Civil War collection! Included with the pistol is a red velvet lined case, Civil War period cap tin and bullet mold and a Model 1851 sword belt plate.
