This is a WM Parkhurst side by side 12 gauge shotgun manufactured in Leige, Belgium. The shotgun has an overall length of 44 3/4", with barrel lengths of 28". WM PARKHURST is a trade name used on shotguns made by Simonis, Janssen, Dumoulin and Company of Leige, Belgium. The barrels, lockplates, trigger guard, butt plate and all other hard parts have a matching steel gray patina. The exterior of the barrels have a smooth, steel gray patina with some bluing showing. The rib between the barrels is stamped "BELGIUM LAMINATED STEEL". The bores are moderately bright and have no rust, but the left barrel has a small patch of light pitting. A small brass bead sight is located 1/8" behind the muzzles on the barrel rib. The bottom of the barrels have several stamps on the flats. On the rib between the barrels the serial number of 1571 is clearly stamped. The right barrel is stamped MC, star over V, 183, four Belgian proof marks and 12 over C within a diamond. The left barrel is stamped identical minus the MC. The lug for the forehand is stamped FL. The barrel flats on the receiver have a couple of proofs, the letters FL and the serial number of 1571. The lockplates also have a very smooth appearance, with the name WM PARKHURST on the right side and MACHINE MADE on the left side. The mechanics of both locks function fine. A small inlaid silver shield adorns the bottom of the stock. The oak stock is in good condition, and shows evidence of honest in the wrist area. The wrist is checkered, and shows the wear from considerable handling. The forehand is missing from the gun. This is an inexpensive example of the late 1800's export guns coming into America that were sold all over the United States.
