Leech & Rigdon Confederate Naval Cutlass

This is a Confederate naval cutlass manufactured by Leech & Rigdon at either their location in Columbus, Mississippi or Greensboro, Georgia. This Confederate Naval cutlass has an overall length of 26 1/4", with a blade measuring 21". The double edged, spear point blade has a dark, near black patina with scatter pitting along the entire length of the blade on both sides. There are a couple of nicks along the upper edge. There are no stamps or marks on the blade. The leather throat washer is missing from the blade. This rare naval cutlass utilizes an S shaped guard and brass cast grip. The guard has that red tinted "Confederate brass" patina, while the scaled grip has taken on more of a dark mustard patina. The grip is slotted for a basket guard. The peen of the blade tang is undisturbed, the S guard is a little loose on the blade. This is a nice example of a very rare Confederate Naval cutlass manufactured by Leech & Rigdon and could be the crown jewel of your CS Navy collection!
