This is a wooden keg used to store gunpowder from the 1850's - 1860's period. The keg is made up of 11 wooden staves with willow hoops on the ends. One end of the keg is threaded for a wooden plug that is still present. The other end has just a partial paper label on it. There is just enough left of the paper label to identify this one as being sold by the Hazard Powder Company of Hazardville, Connecticut. You can still read Kentucky Rifle Gunpowder on the remaining part of the label. This little keg, measuring 8 1/4" tall and 6" across, would look great with a Kentucky long rifle display.
