This is a Model 1851 Colt Navy cap and ball revolver. The serial number 60492 puts this one in the production year of 1856. The 7 1/2" barrel has visible rifling and a bore that shows no rust or pitting. The single line ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT NEW YORK CITY address is clearly visible. The Colt patent mark is still very crisp and legible, along with the martial U.S. stamp below it. The is no cylinder scene left on this old gun, or a visible serial number. The sub inspectors stamp of K is found on the trigger guard, along with the letter C on the trigger guard and back strap. The serial numbers are very crisp and match, with the exception of the wedge. It is unmarked but appears to be a period replacement. The gun has an overall dull steel gray patina. The mechanics of this old Colt work perfectly. There are no traces of the original silver wash visible on the trigger guard and back strap. The exposed brass has taken on a medium mustard patina that is very eye pleasing. P 105 is stamped into the bottom of the back strap. The walnut grips have the majority of the original varnish remaining, with a couple of small bumps and dings on the sides of the grips. They fit the gun like a glove, have a well worn cartouche on the right grip and have no repairs. Engraved on the left side of the barrel is the name GEORGE HUDSON and the date March, 1956. This is a beautiful gun that may have fought with some Union soldier during the war of northern aggression and then 100 years after the gun was made the new owner put his name on it. The gun still displays well and will make a nice addition to your Colt or Civil War firearms collection.
