This is an excavated Model 1839 US waist belt plate that was recovered in Floyd, County, Kentucky. It measures 3 1/16" wide and 2" tall. The face of the plate displays great, with a dark mustard patina. The ends of the plate are slightly folded inward, probably from coming in contact with a plow. This plate uses the arrow hooks on the back, all three hooks are present. The lead back is all there too. The brass still has a little bit of shine to it. I believe this one has been cleaned quite some time ago, and has began to age back well. It's a great looking piece of Federal Civil War history for the belt plate collector.
