This book is a first edition written by Lewis Winant, published in 1952, the narrative is 186 pages and is illustrated with black and white photos. During the time of its publication, this was the definitive book on the first successful type of multishot firearms. Lew Winant, a well known collector and student of firearms, brought to the collecting community a treasury of information about all true and quasi types of pepperboxes within the covers of a single volume. In this book the collector finds descriptions of a comprehensive collection of pepperboxes. Collectors can trace the development of the weapon from its first cumbersome form in the 17th century to the sleek, easily concealed, deadly killer produced just before the 20th century. The book is broken down into twelve authoritative chapters that adequately cover the history of the pepperbox firearm. There are ninety two photographs showing hundreds of types of pepperboxes, precursors in many ways of todays modern automatic weapons. This hardback book is in very good condition, with a dust jacket in good condition.
