This is an 1800's powder flask from the North East Tennessee area. The powder flask is made from a cow horn. The horn measures approximately 9" in length, 2 1/2" across the butte plug and 1/2" across the spout. The horn has aged nicely and shows no cracks or splits. The butte plug is held secure with iron pins and utilizes an iron pin with washer to attach the cloth suspension strap. There are also four brass tacks that look to be more for decoration where the butte plug joins the horn. There looks to have been a few more, but they are missing now. The suspension sling is made of cloth ticking type material. The only flaw with this horn is the fact that the spout plug is no longer reporting for duty. This walked into the shop from the Surgoinsville, Tennessee area, not that far from where Davy Crockett grew up!
