This is a hand forged Rifleman's knife from the Revolutionary war period. It measures 15 1/2" in length and has an 11" clip point blade. It came into the shop this week from the southwestern Virginia area. There have been several early American pieces to come in lately from the local area. The knife blade is hand forged and is very well done. Four brass pins attach the two piece horn handles to the blade tang. The blade width at the handles is 1 1/8. The edge of the blade, still retaining some period sharpness, has a couple of nicks. The horn handles, most likely cowhorn, are decorated with incised lines from one end to the other. They have taken one a golden yellow patina and really display well. There is one small chip out of the right side handle at the very end. Another great piece of early Americana from the local area that will fit into any Rev War period display or collection.
