This is a set of US Model 1907 suspenders manufactured by Russell. The 1907 suspenders were replacements for the short lived Model 1903 suspenders. These suspenders were meant to be used with the Model 1903 cartridge belts. This web equipment was designed to be worn by an individual that stood 5' 4" tall. That fact helps explain the modifications that have taken place with this set of suspenders. The rear of the suspenders had two individual hooks that connected to the cartridge belt eyelets in the rear. The two straps were gathered by a metal clip, this set is missing the clip. On the front side of the suspenders there were two hooks on each side of the strap, to engage two eyelets on each side of the buckle to distribute the weight of the cartridges and other gear attached to the belt. This set only has one set of hooks per side to engage the belt. The other set of hooks have been hooked back into the strap in order to lengthen the suspenders. The wide part of the suspenders have been stitched together towards the bottom to make up for the missing metal clip. They are both maker marked and dated AUG/RUSSELL/1918. They are also stenciled 6/124 or G/124, you make the call. These suspenders are in very strong condition and would go great with any WWI Infantry display.
